Anyway, i've been kinda absent from deviant art, and one of my new year reolution's is to post more!!
this christmas we had a traditionl posada, there are nine of them, the ninth one held on December 24.
Anyway, it consist on sing some kind of play that represents Mary and Joseph asking for shelter in betlehem, you gather your friends and family, or even the whole street, the inhabitants of the house where the poseda is being taking place sing from inside the house deniying shelter to Mary and Joseph, and the guests, from outside play the part of the couple asking for a place to stay, at the end the hosts open the door and the people outside enter the house,then there is a session of prayers, along with christmas carols. Afterwards the children hit one or several piñatas which have fruit like limes (or lemons i really get confused translating this fruits from Spanish to English, its green and sweet), sugar reed, tejocote(no clue of how you call this one in English),peanuts, oranges and jícamas ( its a tuber).
After the last piñata is broken, the hosts offer food ( in my house we give the guests tamales ad atole ( first one is some kind of cake prepared with corn flour and lard, filled either with salty or sweet stuff,it's an steamed dish, the atole's a beverage prepared with corn flour and milk, it's ussually sweet). Lastly you dance .
i really like this tradition, i remember as kid i used to go with my grandmother to all the nine posadas in the neighborhood, nowadays i only get to go to one or two, like this year, buu T.T.
As i was saying at my grandmas house with my cousins and uncles, we had a small posada, and then we had dinner, unfortunately, i got sick next day so i couldn't enjoy teh leftovers as every.
Tomorrow's my cousins fifteenth birthday party, its similar to the sweet 16 one in USA ( I guess).
